Thirty-five years ago, the Catholic Church sent Padre Marcos Dessy to Nicaragua to care for orphaned children. From this humble beginning, his ventures in and around the town of Chinandega have blossomed into a network of support and growth for the community. Padre Marcos has named his mission Betania after the town of Bethany where Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. Some of the services available in Betania include:
- Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church
- Getsemani Seminary
- San Martín de Porres Hospital
- Omar Mohamed Kidney Dialysis Clinic
- Jario Fransico Vega Salazar Conservatory School of Music
- Rodrigo Callejas Montealegre Theater
- Enrique Berio Mantica Deshón Museum of Nicaraguan Culture
- School of Art
